Homework for 28th October

Hey all! Hope you guys are enjoying the Grade 4 Blog!

Your Homework for tonight is to read and try and remember most of the words so we can sing it next week! Also, show your parents the video on Youtube and explain how this song is about safety and trains! Dumb Ways to die Video!

Set fire to your hair
Poke a stick at a grizzly bear
Eat medicines that’s out of date
Use your body parts as piranha bait

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Get your toast out with a fork
Do your own electrical work
Teach yourself how to fly
Eat a two week old unrefrigerated pie

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die
Invite a psycho-killer inside
Scratch your principal’s brand new ride
Take your helmet off in outer space
Use your clothes dryer as a hiding place

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsty.com/tangerine-kitty-dumb-waysdie-lyrics.html ]
 Keep a rattlesnake as pet
Sell both the kidneys on the internet
Eat a tube of superglue
“I wonder what’s this red button do?”

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Dress up like a moose during hunting season
Disturb a nest of wasps for no good reason
Stand on the edge of a train station platform
Drive around the boom gates at a level crossing
Run across the tracks between the platforms
They may not rhyme but they’re quite possibly

Dumbest ways to die ie
Dumbest ways to die
Dumbest ways to die
So many dumb
So many dumb ways to die
BE SAFE AROUND TRAINS!!!!i!!!

October 28, 2014
Hi Grade 4 Family and Friends,

Today we had an exciting day in grade four! We opened the day by completing our hand-written, rough draft essays. Each student was required to write three paragraphs explaining what they did over the break. The students were expected to use at least two compound-sentences, past tense language, correct capitalization, and correct punctuation.

After the students completed their rough drafts, they were required to go to the computer lab to enter their rough drafts into Microsoft Word in order to create a final draft. We provided direct instruction focused on using Microsoft Word to help check spelling, find grammar mistakes and to help us organize our writing in general. We also used this time in the computer-room to get each students set up with a Google Docs folder, so that we can use this as a way to make ongoing assessments available at home digitally while we build a physical portfolio at school. At the end of the year, each student will have a collection of exemplary works chosen by the teachers and students as well as a digital portfolio of the same works. The digital portfolios will be a collection of what we are learning in our inquiry units as well as math and language studies, especially when our math and language standards tie into and help drive the inquiry itself.

Today in math we practiced our multiples (times tables), and we provided direct instruction focused on various tricks to help us learn and remember our multiples. The students were required to complete two lengthy handouts focused on the more challenging multiples: 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 8, 11 and 12.

REMINDER Thursday and Friday and dye days; we will be completing a final round of Creeper T Shirts.
